🔜UMA REFLEXAO SOBRE AS ARTES CENICAS (TEXTO EM INGLES)

A reflection on the performing arts

The performing arts fascinate us not because they serve as an example so that something does not repeat itself, especially if it is something bad or bad, but just the opposite: to show us where evil has failed to overcome good. In a way, scenic representations are ways for human beings to tell the external - or internal - world how unhappy they are or are, the great successes of cinema and theater are tragedies and not happy ending novels. In the highest grossing films, the hero always dies in the end, just as in Christianity.

The repetition of tragic and socially repugnant events occurs more sharply through the socialization of the art of acting. In societies where the performing arts were little or hardly developed, the maintenance of cultural and political standards was more perennial, just for comparing Western and Eastern cultures. Those always influenced by theater and cinema went through - and go through - a mill of social transformations; these, in contrast to the performing arts, little developed over the centuries and which had only a marked advance only at the end of the twentieth century, conservative and millennial in their customs and traditions. In other words: the role of cinema is to be the accelerator of social change, without caring too much about ethical issues or labels and, even less, how to 'teach' people to ' live better without repeating the same mistakes of the past '. Ethics and "good customs" do not interest the seventh art, the villains are more interesting than the 'good guys' in cinema and theater.

We owe it to cinema and theater not to improve the human character or to advance social achievements in the pursuit of humanistic or humanitarian ideals, but just the opposite: as the performing arts evolved in different societies, they deteriorate proportionately and thus , in societies where the performing arts evolve closer, they are in an ethical, cultural and moral abyss - and a spiritual one indeed!

There is a sadistic pleasure in the human soul and this the seventh art explores with perfection: we are more enchanted by the villains than the protagonists, the schizophrenics, bipolar and even the 'serial-killers' than the flat and 'right' characters. Man does not learn from mistakes, neither his own nor those of others, he only becomes more perverse.
